Former Rajasthan Minister Arun Chaturvedi has been appointed as the Chairman of the State Finance Commission and retired IAS officer Naresh Kumar Thakral made the member secretary.

The state Governor Haribhau Kisanrao has issued orders Friday night to reconstitute the commission with the appointment of the Chairman and the member secretary.

The term in the office for Chaturvedi and Thakral will be one and a half years with effect from date of issuance of the notification.

The principal task of the commission is to review the financial condition of the panchayati raj institutions and the urban civic bodies and to recommend the measures to improve the condition.

The commission will consider representation from panchayati raj institutions for fund needs and also make recommendations on principles of the distribution of proceeds of revenue receipts between state government and panchayats and the state government and the urban civic bodies.

The Commission may also recommend the basis and principles for grant-in-aid to the rural and the urban local bodies.

Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma has greeted his party colleague Chaturvedi for being made Chairman in the commission and extended good wishes for a successful term in his new post.

Earlier, Chaturvedi worked as the BJP state president between 2009 and 2012. He represented the Civil Lines, Jaipur, constituency in the state assembly between 2013 – 2018 and remained Cabinet Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment in the Vasundhara Raje led government.
